5.2 Keep Watch

Matthew 13:24 “… a man… sowed good seed in his field. 25 “But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.”

The enemy knows he cannot defeat the Lord, but it doesn’t stop him from wreaking havoc in God’s field. Sadly, it is while God’s people are sleeping that the enemy sows tares. The Lord calls us to keep watch, to be diligent.

It was in the garden of Gethsemane that Jesus prayed in agony. When He returned to the disciples, He didn’t find them praying – He found them sleeping. “Could you not keep watch with me for one hour?” He asked them. “Then pray that you do not enter into temptation.”

We are making great progress in praying Kingdom prayers. This doesn’t sit well with the enemy. It is now that we must keep watch in prayer.

Prayer points and discussion starters:
  • Pray for God’s people to remain alert to the schemes of the enemy.
  • Pray particularly for pastors to diligently guard the field God has entrusted to them.
  • Pray that God’s workers remain focused on the most important things – that they will not put down their guard.
  • Pray that God’s workers will not grow weary in well-doing. Pray that they will continue to be refreshed by a vibrant relationship with the Lord. Lift the arms of pastors and ask the Lord to refresh them.
  • Pray for the Lord to be glorified and magnified.
  • Write you own prayer prompted by today’s topic:
