3.7 It All Begins with Prayer

I mentioned yesterday that we recently saw a new church of believers begin as a result of a friend inviting several to a Bible study.
But I want to take it back a step and tell you how it really began.
One of the elders in our church, a missionary, began praying several years ago for the Hindu community. He prayed big prayers, that God would turn many to Himself and to embrace Jesus Christ as Lord.
He prayed and prayed and prayed. He never gave up praying that God would work a miracle in the hearts of these people.
I am convinced that this is a direct result of his prayers. Not flashy or fancy. In His utter dependence on God to make a difference, God has heard and brought about a harvest. Will you pray?

Prayer Prompts and Discussion Starters:
  • What Kingdom prayers are you prompted to pray. Review your prayers from this week. Is there something specific God has been laying on your heart this week? Enlist others to pray with you about this.

  1. This reminds me of the Jewish people that lost their land about 2000 years ago ... They were scattered across the world, without a country to call their own. But they held on to the promise that God had made them thousands of years ago. Generation after generation, they went to Jerusalem and prayed.
1903, Britain proposed to give them Uganda (Africa). They refused. And held on to God's promise. Until they finally got a Jewish state called Israel in 1948.
Dear Lord, give me that kind of perseverance in prayer! Halleluia!

  2. You're right, Stefanie! If I truly have confidence in God's promises - If I trust solely in Him, I must persevere - knowing that He will do just as He has said.

Sadly, my lack of perseverance reveals a poverty of my own trust or confidence in God - or an apathy toward Kingdom concerns.

Oh, Lord, give be merciful. Grant us the grace to persevere!
